Speech Therapy

Kids Relate provides speech and language therapy to help children develop the communication skills needed for self-expression, interaction with others and classroom success.  At Kids Relate, we make our therapy fit the child, not the other way around.  Speech and language learning will be embedded in activities your child enjoys. We will collaborate with you to develop an effective home program that enhances communication development.   Here are examples of the types of skills we might address:

Language comprehension

Understanding what others say is critical to support learning, friendships, classroom success and participation in family activities.  Depending on your child's needs, we support language comprehension by introducing gradually more complex language into child-centered activities.

Vocabulary development

A solid base vocabulary helps your child express a fuller range of ideas and supports understanding of the speech of others. At Kids Relate, we help your child acquire vocabulary efficiently and effectively by introducing thematically related objects, actions and concepts.

Clarity of speech

It can be very frustrating for a child who attempts to express ideas and is not understood.  We look at the underlying reason for reduced speech clarity to develop a program that remediates speech as quickly as possible.

Language function

Language is used for lots of different reasons: to make comments, ask for things we want, get information from others, express emotions, reject things we do not want, respond to questions and gain the attention of others, among other things.  We help children expand their variety of language functions to enable richer, more complex interactions.

Sentence structure

The way we put our words together to form sentences helps us make ourselves understood by others.  We facilitate the development of sentence structure by gradually expanding on your child's current word combinations.
